The Newport In-Water Boat Show, the West Coast’s largest in-water boat show, starts Thursday and runs through Sunday at the newly renovated Lido Marina Village in California.
This year’s show in Newport Beach will be one of the largest in terms of exhibitors, if not the largest, with about 200 boats for sale, show owner Duncan McIntosh said.
“We’re way above anything we’ve had in the last decade or more,” McIntosh told Trade Only Today. “One of the things we did a year ago — because we were doing two shows a year here, one in the spring and one in the fall — but when we took the fall show and moved it to L.A. Harbor, it made all the difference in the world.”
Last year the Duncan McIntosh Co., which owns several West Coast shows as well as publications, announced that the inaugural in-water fall show at Cabrillo Way Marina in Los Angeles Harbor would replace the Lido Boat Show, which brought a large array of yachts to Newport Harbor during its 37-year run, according to The Log.
“People are really looking forward to it. That has really driven a lot of excitement,” McIntosh said. “It’s not like before where they knew if they missed one, they could just catch the next. It’s now or never.”
Celebrating 44 years as the West Coast’s destination for big boats and yachts, this weekend’s show in Newport Beach is the first in-water show after a dramatic two-year renovation of the seaside shopping and restaurant complex that transformed it into a lifestyle destination featuring boutiques, eateries and lifestyle shops.
“They did quite a job on this place. All the infrastructure’s redone,” McIntosh said. “There are new docks, and all-new electrical — they put these big transformers underground. We have more power than we can even use. The place looks great.”
McIntosh said his company has launched all of its docks, including its new docks and those acquired when his company bought the National Marine Manufacturers Association’s Los Angeles and San Diego shows last year.
The show does feature West Coast builders, including a new Duffield 58 from Newport Beach’s Duffield Yachts. “He did a really nice job on that boat,” McIntosh said.
